Kakashi leaned over the woman's bed, panting heavily. His tie loosened, his hair disheveled. Holly Georgaros was laying next to the bed, her lifeblood pooled around her.
She was the daughter of a rich foreign business man, cheated out of his fortune by her greedy brother. She resorted to stealing to broaden what little wealth she had gained from him.
Holly struggled. She definitely put up a fight. But Kakashi won with one gunshot to the neck. He glanced to the clock on her end table. It was 10:29. He had to gt to Nagoya P.D. Mikuru was probably wondering where he was. He straightened up and redid his tie, taking one final glance at Holly's listless body, making sure she was completely gone.
She was.
Mikuru waited outside Kakashi's apartment. She had long since fallen asleep, her head rested on the stoop's handrail (klolwat).
"Mikuru-san..."
Kakashi had stopped by to pick up his briefcase when he happened upon this sight. He sat down next to her on the step and lightly touched her shoulder. In response, Mikuru jolted away, grabbing onto what it was that touched her. She looked over her shoulder softly saying, "H-Hatake-sama."
"Did you sleep well?" he asked, chuckling.
"What time is it?"
"A little before eleven."
Mikuru stretched her arms out and yawned, and then reached into her purse.
"You forgot this," she said, handing him the book. Kakashi eyed her curiously, and then nodded, taking it.
"Thank you, Mikuru-san..." Mikuru smiled as he trailed off. "If you give me a few minutes to get my briefcase, we could head to the police department."
"Sure," she replied.
"Give me just a minute."
Kakashi held his finger up and went inside. As she waited, she thought; this man was nothing she expected. She expected him to be stuffy, formal. But he wasn't.
And he was attractive.
But older than her; so much older. And her boss.
"Mikuru-san." She turned around and spotted him, briecase in hand.
"Ready, Hatake-sama?" she asked. He nodded, offered a hand to help her off the stoop, and the two headed off.
"This is the girl?"
Standing before them was a tall, curly-haired brunette woman, wearing the city's uniform.
"Yes, Erika-san," Kakashi responded, bowing to her. "This is Sanaka Mikuru-san." Mikuru bowed to the woman and smiled, greeting her with a simple "hello."
"Hello, Sanaka-san," the woman replied, bowing back. "I'm Tanabata Erika."
"Nice to meet you."
"So, here to get your I.D., Sanaka-san?"
"Yes ma'am," she said softly.
"Well, come on over and we'll do that now." Erika smiled, pointing to the photography area. Mikuru glanced over her shoulder to Kakashi, noticing he was nodding.
"Okay."
As the two walked away together, Erika glanced down to Mikuru, grinning slyly.
"So..."
"So?" Mikuru questioned. Erika shook her head, amazed she wasn't catching on.
"You and Kakashi..."
"...just met yesterday," she finished.
"That means nothing!" Mikuru looked at her through squinted eyes.
"Okay, Tanabata-san. I'm lost. Help me out." Erika rolled her eyes, examining their surroundings as she did so. Then she leaned in close and whispered, "you and Kakashi...you know, together?"
Mikuru covered her mouth, attempting to stifle laughter. "Hey, it's a standard question we ask all of his assistants!"
"Well, I can safely assure you the answer is no."
"How about enjo-kōsai?!" piped up a blonde man from behind a desk nearby.
"Shi-kun, hush!" Erika replied, putting her finger on her mouth and winking. She then turned back to Mikuru and said, "that's my husband, Tanabata Shi."
"Pleasure to meet you, Tanabata Shi-san," Mikuru said, bowing.
"Always a fun time when you meet Kakashi's assistants," Shi replied. "Now then, care to answer my question, Ane-san?"
"It's Sanaka Mikuru, and I'm pretty sure the answer's no."
"Pretty sure?"
She rolled her eyes. Erika looked over to her and smirked again. "You have to admit, he is attractive," she said.
"Yes, I'll admit that," Mikuru said, "but he's atleast twenty years older than me!"
"How old are you?" Erika asked.
"Sixteen, but why do--"
"He's twenty-eight." Mikuru stared at her, shocked. "I don't consider twelve years to be that big of a gap."
"Especially for enjo-kōsai!" Shi added. Erika looked over to her husband and made a "ssh"-ing sound at him.
"Anyway, now that we're done gossiping, let's go get your I.D. made."
"Okay."
