Mikuru sat across from Kakashi in his office, cradling her I.D. in her hands. She looked down on it approvingly; smiling.
"You look like you're in love with it," Kakashi muttered as he worked at something on his computer. She looked up to him and smirked.
"Nah, I don't think it has enough money to take me out to dinner," she responded. Kakashi shook his head in response. "Hatake-sama, why did you pick me out of how many people on the sidewalk?" He shrugged, saying nothing. "Well...?"
"Sometimes you just know when an assistant will be good," he said. Mikuru looked at him crossly. "After I finish we'll start your next day of training."
"Yes sir," she replied. "But where?"
"The police department's training facility," he responded, typing one final word and getting up, turning his computer off. "Come on." She nodded and followed behind him. As they passed by the various desks, both Erika and Shi gave her a smile and a wink. Mikuru rolled her eyes at them again, walking closer to him. Kakashi glanced over his shoulder and saw her looking up at him. He smiled, even though he well knew she couldn't see him. The closer they got, the thicker the smell of gun powder was. The last door on the left in the hallway was their stop. Slowly, Kakashi opened the door up. Nobody was in there.
"Do you have your gun?" Mikuru glanced back up at him, startled by his voice. Slowly, she nodded, pulling it out of her purse. "Careful where you put it, Mikuru-san."
"I know," she replied softly. "I need to get a holster. A leg holster."
"A leg holster?"
"Yeah." She then grinned and added, "so I can be like Annie Oakley!"
Kakashi stared at her curiously, asking "who's Annie Oakley?" Sheepishly, Mikuru laughed. She couldn't believe she had just said that.
"Annie Oakley was this cowgirl in America back in the 1880s," she replied. "She was awesome."
"How do you know this...?"
Mikuru's eyes darted around. She then laughed again and bit on her lip. "I-I like to watch old American movies and shows...from like the forties and fifties and stuff." Kakashi smiled again, chuckling. What a strange girl this was. Sixteen and yet she watched things that were even before his time. "And I guess this Annie Oakley had a T.V. show about her life?"
"Yep," she replied, grinning widely. "She'd kick the bad guy's ass and get the good guy's heart!" Mikuru felt like a little kid again, so happy about something so silly as an old show from America. She had to remind herself she was basically an adult now. She had to grow up so quickly, between her father's and her brother's deaths, and her sick mother...
Kakashi's smile was still on his covered face. She was indeed strange. Pretty, but strange. Or atleast, a little. But yet, he couldn't wait to get to know her more. "Now then..."
"Right," she replied, wrapping her fingers around the handle and the trigger. "I take it I'm supposed to aim for those targets over there." She pointed across from where they were standing at the row of targets. Kakashi nodded, pulling his gun out of the same spot as before; his suit coat. "Wanting to one-up me?" she added, giggling.
"Just gonna show you how it's done."
"Oh, so you're threatening me?"
"Cute, Mikuru-san."
The two simultaneously raised their guns towards the targets. Mikuru glanced over to him and smirked. "Ready, Hatake-sama?" she said teasingly.
"Of course, Sanaka-san."
The two fired. She used both of her hands, but was still knocked backwards. Kakashi, on the other hand, only used one; barely flinching at the sound or the force.
"Shit," she said softly. The bullet just missed the center. She looked over to Kakashi's: it was perfect.
"I win," he replied, pleased with himself.
"Now that you're done making a fool of myself, care to do some more training?"
"Of course, Mikuru-san."
Kakashi walked over and put his arms around Mikuru to aim herself and her gun, similarly to the last time; when they were on his apartment's rooftop. But the door to the training room opened with the sound of a click, and the two looked over their shoulders to see who had came in Erika.
"Oh!" she exclaimed with a faux-surprised sound in her voice. "Am I interrupting anything?" Kakashi let go of Mikuru and shook his head, while Mikuru spun around to face Erika; the gun pointed at her.
"Nope, we're fine!" she replied cheerily. Erika's eyes widened at the sight.
"Okay...uhm..." Slowly, Erika began to walk out of the doorway and back towards her desk. "Let me know if you two need anything!" After shutting the door, Mikuru could hear the sound of her heels hitting the floor as she ran.
"That was weird," Mikuru mumbled. She dropped her gun as she looked at the door curiously. On the inside though, she was snickering. Kakashi looked down at her and raised his eyebrows.
"Erika-san gets a little scared around guns."
"Oh really?" she asked slyly. He nodded and pointed back to the target.
"Shall we continue?"
"...w-wait."
"What?" he looked at her inquisitively, watching as she pulled her jacket off. Underneath she was wearing a gray long-sleeved t-shirt dress.
"It was getting hot in here," she replied.
"Oh. Now shall we continue?"
"Eh, maybe."
"Mikuru-san," he said sternly.
"I'm just joking!"
He rolled his eyes. "Get back into position. Let's try this again, without any interruptions."
"Yes sir."
